Focus of Work


I am an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at Northwestern University and Attending Cardiac Surgeon at Northwestern Medicine. Within the Bluhm Cardiovascular institute, I co-direct the Marfan Clinic, Bicuspid Aortic Valve Clinic and Thoracic Aortic Surgery Program. As Chairman of the Blood Transfusion Committee, I seek to advance patient blood management and responsible blood transfusion practices at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Academic Focus

My academic focus is clinical research in novel valve therapies including trans-catheter valve repair / replacement and minimally-invasive valve surgery.

Clinical Focus

My clinical focus is complex cardiac surgery including valve-sparing aortic root replacement, bicuspid aortic valve repair, minimally-invasive valve surgery, aortic arch / thoraco-abdominal aortic surgery, and pulmonary thrombo-endarterectomy.
