Residency Interview Dates for 2017/2018 Season: TBD
Individuals interested in applying to the integrated plastic surgery residency program of the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University must submit their application via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), ERAS is a service that transmits residency applications, letters of recommendation, Dean's letters/MSPE, transcripts, and other supporting credentials from applicants and medical schools to residency programs using the Internet. The plastic surgery residency office will not accept any paper applications.
Personal interviews are by invitation only and are required for acceptance to our program. A visiting clerkship in the Division of Plastic Surgery is helpful but not necessary for obtaining an interview. Many but not all of the visiting students will be invited to interview.
We use the standard ERAS deadline for application.
- United States clinical experience is not required
- The preferred visa for training at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University is the J-1 visa sponsored through the ECFMG for residency/fellowship training.
- All IMG's must hold a current and valid ECFMG certificate in order for their application to be considered compete, including the clinical skills assessment which must also be current and valid.
- Each applicant must have taken and passed both Steps I and II of the USMLE, and their English qualifying examination must be current and valid.
There is a Friday night reception (business attire) for all applicants, so that the faculty and housestaff can get to know you in a relaxed atmosphere. Interviews with multiple faculty members occurs on Saturday, followed by a deep dish Chicago pizza lunch. The interviews typically end by 2PM on Saturday. Traditionally, there is a social event for the residents and applicants on Saturday night.
