The Vascular Surgery fellowship is an Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited two-year vascular surgical training program.

In addition to the 5+2 program, the Early Specialization Program (ESP) and recently ACGME approved 0+5 programs are also available for further vascular surgery fellowship training. The fellows (2 per year for an aggregate of 4 fellows total) rotate at both Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, gaining experience in vascular surgery, interventional radiology, and the blood flow laboratory.  There is a strong collegial interaction between vascular surgery and other subspecialties (i.e., cardiology and radiology), which results in a robust training experience using cutting edge technologic tools. Additionally, the faculty members of the division (Drs. Pearce, Matsumura, Morasch, Eskandari, Rodriguez, and Kibbe) are actively involved in a number of clinical trials ranging from carotid stenting and other peripheral interventions to aortic stent grafting. This environment lends itself to a busy clinical practice and an active clinical research program.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Candidates for the general vascular surgery fellowship (5+2) must have completed a general surgery residency program as required by the American Board of Surgery and must be board eligible or board certified. The program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS); therefore, all candidates must participate in the Match. Applications should be submitted for review through ERAS at http://www.aamc.org/eras/. Application hard copies are not accepted for review. Applications must be completed by February 15th.  Required components of the application process include:

· A completed AAMC-NRMP application for Fellowship in General Vascular Surgery

· A letter from the Program Director of your Residency program

· An official copy of your USMLE & ABSITE scores

· An official medical school transcript

· Two letters of reference, preferably from vascular surgery faculty members

After careful review by the Vascular Surgery Division’s faculty, selected applicants are invited to formal interviews by email.
