Alberto de Hoyos, MD
Education

September 4, 2009 marked the first Hands-on Percutaneous Dilational Tracheostomy Course (Using Single Step and Balloon Dilation Techniques) held at Northwestern and directed by Dr. Alberto de Hoyos.  This was a NU sponsored CME program designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, residents, fellows, surgeons, pulmonologists, and intensivists whose services include patients in need of tracheostomy.  The course was designed for presentations as well as a hand-on laboratory.  Speakers included Dr. Alberto de Hoyos of Northwestern, Yaakov Friedman of Provident Hospital of Chicago, Kevin Kovitz of Suburban Lung Associates and Hieu Ton-That of Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine.

Research

Northwestern’s Section of Thoracic Surgery will be a participating site in the worldwide randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase III clinical trial called MAGRIT, targeting patients with MAGE-A3-positive, completely resected stage IB, II or IIIA Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer.

This research study is being conducted to test an investigational product called MAGE-A3 ASCI (Antigen Specific Cancer Immunotherapeutic), to see if it may prevent the return of the cancer after surgical removal of the tumor.

For more information, interested participants and clinicians may contact Susan Fore-Kosterski, RN, Research Coordinator, Department of Thoracic Surgery at (312) 926-7577.
